About the Legal Clinic
The Centre for Spanish-Speaking Peoples Legal Clinic is staffed by two lawyers, one community legal worker (CLW), and an office manager. Law students work in our clinic during the summer months. During the academic year, law students from the University of Toronto and Osgoode Hall are eligible to work at the legal clinic.
The clinic provides legal services in the areas of immigration and refugee law, social assistance (OW and ODSP), landlord/tenant law, human rights and employment law, Employment Insurance (EI) and Canadian Pension Plan (CPP).
Who Do We Serve?
The CSSP Legal Clinic serves members of the Spanish-speaking community from across Ontario. Although we do not have a geographical catchment area, we are based in Toronto and provide legal services for those who meet our case selection and financial eligibility requirements. We accept clients regardless of their current immigration and citizenship status. Spanish-language interpreters are available.
Law Students
The CSSP Legal Clinic receives funding from Legal Aid Ontario to hire first and second-year law students during the summer months. Positions are normally posted in March or April, and will be advertised on this site when more information is available. Please note that all positions are subject to funding.
Law students from University of Toronto are eligible for a credit program, volunteering at the clinic during the academic term. A copy of the 2006 course syllabus is available here.
Osgoode students are also encouraged to volunteer during the academic year, although no credit program is currently established with their institution.
